Webster Tube to be Closed Overnight July 22-24

Plan ahead! Caltrans has scheduled three consecutive overnight closures for the Webster Tube next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The tunnel, which carries incoming traffic from Oakland to Alameda, will remain open in the daytime. The closure will also affect some AC Transit routes.

The Posey Tube, which carries outgoing traffic from Alameda to Oakland, will remain open both day and night.

The purpose of the closures is to accommodate maintenance work. Work will be postponed if it rains.

Webster Tube closure hours:

  • Close at 10 p.m. on Monday, July 22, and reopen at 4 a.m. the next morning.
  • Close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, and reopen at 4 a.m. the next morning.
  • Close at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, and reopen at 4 a.m. the next morning.

Traffic control measures:

Message and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be at the sites during the closures.

The CHP asks motorists to drive with caution, and observe the “Slow for the Cone Zone” and “Be Work Zone Alert.”

Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while they work to maintain our state’s highways, bridges, and tunnels.

Alameda AC Transit stops Lines affected during closure:

  • 20 to Downtown Oakland
  • 51A to Rockridge BART
  • O to San Francisco

Stop closed: Webster Street at Willie Stargell Avenue (Stop ID 50541)
Alternative: Webster Street at Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway (Stop ID 57700)
