A random act of kindness may be its own reward, but a tasty ice-cold Slurpee® would be a great way to top it off on a warm summer day.

Alameda Police Department (APD) officers totally understand that—and will be handing out free Slurpee coupons all summer long to kids who are caught “doing the right thing,” according to an APD post on Facebook.
It’s called Operation Chill, and it’s all about encouraging good decision-making, fostering positive interactions between youth and law enforcement, and recognizing the everyday acts of kindness that often go unnoticed.
“Whether it is helping someone cross the street, wearing a helmet while riding a bike, showing kindness and compassion to others, or making safe and responsible choices, we want to celebrate the positive actions that make our community stronger,” the APD post stated. “We are excited to recognize and reward children and teens for their good deeds and positive behaviors.
The only catch, if there is one, is that you can’t schedule those acts of kindness in advance. You just have to make good choices in general and see what happens.
“You never know when one of our officers might spot your good deed and reward you with a cool treat!” APD said.
The Slurpee coupons that APD officers will be handing out are redeemable at local 7-Eleven stores.
Naturally, some readers who may not be in the preferred age group expressed their support—and envy. “This is great,” one person commented, “but I love Slurpees, too. Please define ‘children.’ …Depending on the interpretation, I may or may not be eligible to a sweet treat.”
Like the officer said, you never know.
