Free Hazardous and e-Waste Drop-Off Event

Want to clean out your house before the holidays but can’t put your hazardous household products in the trash bin? Here’s the solution: bring it all to the free drop-off event in Alameda on Sunday, November 12. It’s that simple. Just drive up and drop it off.

Most of the hazardous waste items you don’t want or need are eligible to be dropped off at this event, but some are not:

Acceptable

  • Pest & garden products
  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Paints and paint related products
  • Electronics
  • Propane tanks
  • Old medications and prescriptions (including controlled substances)
  • Oil, gasoline, auto fluids (note: containers cannot be emptied and returned)
  • Cleaners
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Sharps containers

Prohibited

  • Treated wood waste including railroad ties
  • Asbestos
  • Compressed gas cylinders other than propane
  • Large appliances (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, etc.)
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Smoke detectors
  • Explosives (such as ammunition, fireworks, marine flares, gunpowder)
  • Radioactives

All you need to do is make an appointment online for a drop off time between 9 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. and you’ll get all the details, including the drop off location and packing instructions. This one-day event is free for all Alameda County homeowners and renters. Businesses cannot participate in this event; instead learn more about business hazardous waste disposal from the StopWaste website.

This event is sponsored by Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste with support from the City of Alameda and StopWaste, a public agency that helps Alameda County residents use resources efficiently.
