Want to clean out your house before the holidays but can’t put your hazardous household products in the trash bin? Here’s the solution: bring it all to the free drop-off event in Alameda on Sunday, November 12. It’s that simple. Just drive up and drop it off.
[1]Most of the hazardous waste items you don’t want or need are eligible to be dropped off at this event, but some are not:
Acceptable
- Pest & garden products
- Batteries
- Light bulbs
- Paints and paint related products
- Electronics
- Propane tanks
- Old medications and prescriptions (including controlled substances)
- Oil, gasoline, auto fluids (note: containers cannot be emptied and returned)
- Cleaners
- Fire extinguishers
- Sharps containers
Prohibited
- Treated wood waste including railroad ties
- Asbestos
- Compressed gas cylinders other than propane
- Large appliances (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, etc.)
- Construction and demolition waste
- Smoke detectors
- Explosives (such as ammunition, fireworks, marine flares, gunpowder)
- Radioactives
