Hare Today, Gone (Home With You) Tomorrow

Boy oh boy, does FAAS have rabbits!

If you walk into Rabbit Row at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter’s South Shore Adoption Center you’ll be met by six very cute rabbits.

They’re a variety of colors, with different markings and unique “hare styles.” A couple  of them have one ear that flops down languidly while the other stays up like a radar antenna that’s always listening.

But there’s one thing they have in common: They’re all males. This can lead to some interesting dynamics, especially with four of the buns waiting for their neuter appointments.

Sometimes an unneutered rabbit will try to visit the other guys and show them who’s boss, so they’d all be better off in individual homes. It’s nothing too hare-y, but FAAS wants what’s best for them.

The neutered males — Tolstoy and Nabokov — can be adopted now. The four other guys — Trix, Rusty, Romeo, and Valentino — need to be fostered in a female-rabbit-free home until they’re neutered before you can adopt them.

FAAS provides excellent help when it comes to setting up your home for success with a pet rabbit. You won’t be navigating bunnyland on your own.

Check out these six cool guys on the FAAS Small Animals web page and visit them at FAAS’s South Shore Adoption Center, Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
