Annual Scouts Food Drive

It’s that time again. The holidays are coming up right away, and our Alameda Scouts are leaving doorhangers around town to remind us that they are Scouting for Food to help all of our families keep food on their tables throughout the season.

Look for the doorhangers this Saturday, November 4, and then expect the Scouts to return next Saturday, November 11, to pick up your donations. The annual Scouting for Food drive helps our Alameda Food Bank serve nearly 2,300 families each month.

Your donation of cereal, canned goods, soups, crackers, ramen, coffee and tea, condiments, international foods and other unexpired non-perishable foods will really help. Diapers, baby wipes, and small paper goods are a major bonus and will make a lot of difference for families with young children.

Last year, Alameda Scouts collected more than seven tons—that’s 14,000 pounds, if you’re counting—of non-perishable food in their Scouting for Food drive.

If you don’t get a doorhanger, you can still donate.

“We can’t reach the whole Island,” says event coordinator Michael Britton, “so if you don’t get a door hanger, go to the Food Bank website’s Ways to Donate page to find out how to donate food directly or make a virtual donation in cash.”
