Alameda Scouts To Collect Donations for Alameda Food Bank Saturday

Alameda Scouts will fan out across the Island this Saturday, November 15, to pick up donations for the annual Scouting for Food drive from homes where they left door hangers last Saturday. Scouts will pick up food donations that are in sight of the street by 9 a.m., with the door hanger attached.

Canned goods, coffee and tea, condiments, international foods and other unexpired nonperishable foods—as well as diapers, baby wipes, and small paper goods—will help Alameda Food Bank serve the more than 1,400 families who turn to them each week for help. Last year, Alameda Scouts collected 15,000 pounds—seven tons—of donated food and other items.

“We can’t reach every house on the Island,” says event coordinator Gregg Ankenman, “so if you didn’t get a door hanger, bring your donations to one of our collection sites between 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15.” Collection sites are located at:

  • Harbor Bay Isle Community Center, 3195 Mecartney Road (Bay Farm).
  • Alameda Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Avenue.
  • Alameda Food Bank (old building), 650 West Ranger Avenue, Alameda Point (enter from Pan Am Way).

Alamedans can also support Scouting for Food and Alameda Food Bank at the food bank’s Scouting for Food donation page.
