Electrification Workshop for Renters

The City of Alameda will be offering an electrification workshop for renters. The workshop will explore the challenges and concerns renters have about transitioning gas appliances to electric. The workshop will also cover the City’s plans about electrifying buildings.
The workshop will be offered over Zoom on Monday, March 28 at 06:30 p.m. There is no charge to participate. Registration link. Link for more information.

Astra Launches Rocket Successfully, Part of Multi-Mission deal with Spaceflight, Inc.

Astra, based at Alameda Point, successfully launched one of its Rocket 3.3 vehicles. The launch delivered several payloads into low Earth orbit, including a satellite developed by a student group, Portland State Aerospace Society. The launch took place on March 15 from Kodiak Island in Alaska. The delivery was part of a recently announced contract with launch services provider Spaceflight, Inc. to deliver payloads into space. Astra’s previous attempt to launch Rocket 3.3 for NASA in February was unsuccessful.

Alameda Chamber and Economic Alliance Scholarships Available

Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for the Alameda Chamber’s 2022 scholarship program. The Chamber will make awards of $2,000 to fourteen students. The top winner will be awarded the Wilma Chan Scholarship, a value of $5,000. Applicants must be planning to continue their education after graduation, and meet several other requirements. The application is available as a Google form  and more information for applicants may be found on the Chamber’s website.



Alameda Library Annual Peeps Diorama Contest Launches April 6

Do you like to play with your food? Design and construct a diorama featuring Peeps marshmallows as the characters for the public to vote on! Starting April 6, you can pick up a free Peeps Diorama kit from the main library at the second floor Reference Desk. The kit contains inspiration, examples and all the supplies you’ll need to construct your diorama. Contestants may also furnish their own supplies.
