Those colorful little bunny wabbits that appear this time of year are not just for eating or squishing or taking funny photos for Instagram, although all of those pastimes are certainly legit. Peeps have a higher purpose—Alameda Free Library’s annual Peeps Diorama Contest, which culminates in the Peeple’s Choice Award.

To participate, design and construct a diorama featuring Peeps marshmallows as the characters and submit your masterpiece.
Dioramas should be the size of a shoebox and can be based on any family-friendly book, movie, television show, or other theme. Use recycled materials, magazines, paint, pipe cleaners, and craft supplies to create your Peeps-terpiece. There should be at least one Peep in your diorama, but of course, the more the merrier.
Start with a free Peeps diorama kit
Starting Thursday, April 4, you can pick up a free Peeps diorama kit from the Main Library at the Reference Desk on the 2nd Floor—while supplies last. The kit includes craft supplies to help design a peep-tastic diorama. Supplies are limited, but you can enter the contest using your own supplies as well. Warning: Peeps in the kit are not edible!
If you miss out on the kits, don’t worry. You can enter the contest using your own supplies. The only rule is that your diorama must include at least one Peep, but aside from that, the possibilities are endless.
Rules
All entries must follow the guidelines to be eligible for the Peeple’s Choice Award. Have fun, be creative, and remember that teamwork is welcome. This is fun for the whole family and all ages are invited to participate.
Here are the rules for contest entries:
- Diorama must include one or more Peeps.
- No food or candy other than Peeps are allowed in the diorama.
- Entries must be family friendly.
- Entries must have been constructed in 2024.
- Entry base must be no larger than a shoebox and must be free-standing.
Submit your Peeps-terpiece
Drop off your finished diorama at the reference desk on the second floor of the Main Library at 1550 Oak St. or email a photo of it to [email protected] no later than Monday, April 15. Make sure to include the title of your diorama, your first name, and a contact phone number or email.
