Alameda Police Department (APD) officers arrested a burglary suspect shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30.
According to an APD report, dispatchers received a call regarding a glass break notification from a business in the 1300 block of Park Street. At the same time, a call regarding a suspicious person in the same area was received.
Responding officers located a person attempting to pry open a safe in the 1200 block of Park Street. Upon further investigation, officers determined that a nearby business had been burglarized.
During the burglary, a safe, electronic devices, and tools were stolen. Before gaining entry to this business, the individual had attempted to break into another establishment, but was deterred by their alarm system.
“Thanks to the responding officers and callers, the stolen property was returned to the business,” the APD report stated. The suspect was arrested for multiple offenses.
APD offered the following tips to help reduce the risk of a potential burglary:
- Ensure adequate lighting. Install bright exterior lighting around the perimeter of your building and ensure entry points are illuminated.
- Invest in high-quality safes that are bolted to the floor.
- Limit the amount of cash on site and make regular bank deposits.
- Keep windows clear of obstructions to allow visibility from the street.
- Invest in security systems such as alarms, cameras, motion lights, or glass break sensors.
