Alameda Police officers apprehended and arrested a suspect during an in-progress residential burglary on Sunday, January 12, just before 6 p.m., according to an APD report on Facebook.

“In under 90 seconds of being dispatched, officers arrived on scene and contacted the suspect as they attempted to exit the home,” the report noted. “The stolen items were returned, and the individual was arrested for the burglary and two outstanding warrants.”
On Monday, January 13, officers responded to two thefts at the South Shore Shopping Center and were able to arrest the suspects in each case and return merchandise to the stores.
“In the first incident, a suspect attempted to flee with stolen merchandise in a vehicle, but the car became inoperable,” APD stated. “Officers quickly arrived and arrested the suspect and returned the stolen items to the store.”
While APD was investigating the incident, the vehicle unexpectedly caught fire. Alameda firefighters quickly came to the rescue and extinguished the flames.
A few hours later, APD officers responded to another in-progress theft at a separate business in the South Shore Shopping Center.
“Within minutes, officers had eyes on the suspect trying to leave the area with the stolen goods, and the individual was arrested,” APD reported. That suspect also had four outstanding warrants.
“The swift response and teamwork from our patrol officers prevented these incidents from escalating and ensured stolen property was returned to its rightful owners,” APD noted. “As part of our ongoing efforts to combat crime, Alameda PD continues to strategically position patrol resources in key areas.”
Dozens of community members took to the Facebook post to show their appreciation for APD. A number of people made a point of voicing that they want to see punishment for the people who committed these crimes.
“Well done APD team,” one person commented. “Hopefully the DA will step up with suitable punishment as clearly deterrence tickets aren’t deterring.”
Another person added, “I’m so excited these perpetrators are being caught and addressed. It made me sick to my stomach when they would just come in and take everything and leave without any resistance. GREAT job APD! Keep up the good work! We all appreciate you!”
APD ended its report with a safety reminder: “Remember, if you see something, say something — don’t wait to report in-progress or suspicious activity. Contact us immediately at 510-522-2423 to help keep our community safe.”
