UPDATED: APD Investigating Suspicious Death

Updated 4:30 p.m., April 28, with new information about a vehicle of interest

Alameda Police Officers are investigating the suspicious death of an unknown man. Around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, April 21, Alameda Police Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive male in the rear of a commercial parking lot near Blanding Avenue and Broadway, East of Park Street.

It appears attempts were made to conceal the body at the location. A shopper spotted the body and called 911. APD Officers and Alameda Firefighters arrived and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.


 

Alameda Post - Alameda Police Department investigates suspicious deathAt this time, the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death and the person’s identity are unknown. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau will be responsible for determining the cause of death.

APD Officers are tirelessly pursuing leads to better understand the circumstances around how the person died and why he was in the parking lot. To protect the integrity of the investigation, APD has not shared additional details.



Update: On Thursday afternoon, APD released these photos of a vehicle they are trying to identify in connection with this suspicious death. The vehicle in question is a white Toyota Sienna minivan, probably from 1998-2002. The photos show the front left hubcap is missing and what looks like a bundled tarpaulin on the roof. The vehicle was last seen driving into the Posey Tube towards Oakland on Thursday April 21, just after midnight.
