The Alameda Sister City Association is hosting a free screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary No Other Land at the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex, 2317 Central Avenue, on April 23 at 6 p.m.
The 2024 documentary was directed by a collective of Palestinian-Israeli activists and captures the destruction of a Palestinian community in the occupied West Bank. Though the film did not secure a U.S. distributor, it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film in 2025.
The Alameda Sister City Association organized the sold-out screening with support from the City of Alameda to share the documentary with a wider audience.
“[The City of Alameda is] happy to partner with the Alameda Sister City Association to host a free screening of No Other Land and bring this powerful Academy-Award winning film to Alameda residents,” Sarah Henry said on behalf of the City in a statement to the Alameda Post.
Alameda Families & Friends for Collective Liberation (AFF4CL) said it is “thrilled to see this film come to our island. …Our mainstream media has shielded the public about the truth of Palestine far too long. This Oscar-winning film lifts that veil with artistic beauty and human dignity,” AFF4CL said in a statement to the Post.
