October is the month when black cats finally get their moment in the spotlight, though those of us who know them wish it lasted all year. Despite their beauty and charm, however, black cats tend to wait longer than others for homes, partly due to lingering superstitions and the simple fact that they can be harder to photograph.

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter has several gorgeous black cats hoping to find families who will see past the old stories and appreciate their sleek coats, expressive eyes, and loving personalities. This week, we’re featuring three especially enchanting cats—Aries, Paris, and Lille—just waiting to meet you at the FAAS South Shore Adoption Center.
Aries is a 6-month-old neutered male. He’s shiny, handsome, and just a bit shy at first. Give him a few minutes and his sweetness will beam through. Once comfortable, he leans into pets and rewards you with gentle affection—proof that good things come to those who take the time to connect.
Paris and Lille are petite, spayed 2-year-old sisters who are double the fun. They love to run, play, and wrestle with each other, then groom and nap side-by-side once they’ve worn themselves out. These lively, loving cats enjoy sliding on blankets, chasing toys, snacking, and chatting with their favorite humans.
If you’re ready to bring a little everyday magic into your home, stop by the FAAS South Shore Adoption Center, 2228 South Shore Center, to meet Aries, Paris, and Lille, and other beautiful black cats Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5.pm. Or check out the FAAS cat adoption page. One of these beautiful black cats might just cast a happy spell on your heart.
Update: Paris and Lille have been adopted but besides Aries, black cats Arya and Angus await homes at South Shore.
