Get the Scoop on Rocky Road

Pet of the Week for August 3, 2024

Rocky Road is much like the ice cream that inspired his name—he’s a sweet treat of a pup who makes you smile the moment you get a taste of what a great dog he is.

The adorable four-month-old German Shepherd mix definitely seems to be on his way to becoming a regal, very handsome adult, but in the meantime he’s in that super-cute, awkward big pup phase. His wonky ears are utterly adorable and he still has that “Wow! My paws work like that?” way of moving around.

He’s been good with other dogs, and loves hanging around people. FAAS says he seems really smart and tunes in nicely to whoever is walking him. He’s a popular guy with FAAS dog walkers because he’s pretty tame for a pup, and is a lot of fun in his gangly puppy ways. We’re pretty sure he’s going to grow into those big paws and legs!

Earlier this week, an Alameda family came by to walk dogs at FAAS. It was the birthday wish of young John, who turned eight years old that day. John and his parents, Jake and Shelley, ended up walking a few dogs, including Rocky Road. They loved him, and said he was a very good boy with his birthday pal and family.

By the way, in case you didn’t already know, you too can stop by the FAAS shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way shelter and ask to walk a dog, any day but Monday, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. We’ll match you up with a shelter dog to walk in our beautiful near-waterfront location.

Meanwhile, read more about Rocky Road on his FAAS bio page. And come over to the shelter to meet him in person any day but Monday, noon to 4 p.m.
