Benji: Senior Sweetheart

Pet of the Week for August 24, 2024

Benji is a gentle, cuddly sweetheart of a senior who went from surviving a horrible hoarding situation in Alameda to the warm and loving hands of FAAS staff. He’s one of more than 40 cats FAAS has taken in after being rescued from the house.

This 9-year-old gentle guy has put on weight, gotten cleaned up, and is ready for a real home. He has won hearts at FAAS for being such a sweet, affectionate cat, even after everything he has been through.

Check out this video of him reveling in attention from Nanou Ballou, FAAS adoptions manager.

Benji the Adoptable Senior Kitty

Our shelter animal care staff is deeply devoted to helping Benji and the other cats who were rescued from the hoarding situation to recover and find forever homes. A few are ready for adoption now, and more will be coming.

FAAS was already experiencing a “cat and kitten tsunami,” as John Lipp, FAAS CEO, calls it. You can imagine the impact a sudden addition of 40 more cats, many of whom need extensive medical care, is having at the shelter.

FAAS is asking for help at this critical juncture. If you’ve ever thought of adopting a feline friend, this would be a really good time to do so. See our currently available cats on the FAAS website—so many cute and lovable furry friends are ready to be adopted and cared for. If you are interested in Benji or any of his feline friends, you can get the process started by applying online.

BONUS! To help clear out the shelter, all adult cat adoptions are now $20. DOUBLE BONUS! If you’re 62 or older, adoption fees are waived for senior pets like Benji!
