FAAS Responds to Cat Hoarding Crisis

CEO John Lipp asks for your immediate help with donations and adoptions

It’s every shelter director’s worst fear; a hoarding situation with dozens of animals living in horrendous conditions. A few days ago, right here on our beautiful island, we started dealing with just such a scenario, involving dozens of cats suffering from neglect.

Working with Alameda Animal Control Officer Onesko, and with mutual assistance from Oakland and Hayward, FAAS was onsite during the ongoing rescue operation, and we have taken in 41 cats at our main shelter. More will be coming.

The cats are now receiving medical care, and we’re hopeful that with love and patience, they’ll make a full recovery and be ready for adoption within a few weeks.

But with our shelter already full and resources stretched thin, we urgently need your help. Would you please consider any of the following ways to help us get through this crisis?

  • Donate – The cats are being seen by a veterinarian who specializes in hoarding cases, because there are physical issues specific to animals in these situations. They all need some sort of medical care, some very extensive. Along with food, vaccinations, flea treatment, and vast amounts of staff time, this is a very expensive undertaking. Anything you can give will help!
  • Adopt to clear space – We were already bursting with cats and kittens before this. We have so many sweet, healthy, fun, beautiful cats waiting to be adopted, and we need to get them into homes to make room for the new cats ASAP. Please consider adopting one of our great cats or kittens so our new residents can have the space they need to start healing. Here are our current adoptable feline friends.
  • Adopt one of these cats when they’re cleared – Please follow us on Facebook or Instagram and consider providing a forever home when these cats are ready for adoption

Together, we can give these cats everything they need for a fresh start. Thank you for anything you can do.

With Gratitude and Hope,
John L. Lipp
