AUSD Notes: Fall Plays and School Information Nights

It feels like the school year just started, but it’s already the Fall Play season for our comprehensive high schools. Alameda High School is presenting Antigone 3021 on November 8, 9, 15, and 16 at 7 p.m., and November 11 at 2 p.m. at the Frederick L. Chacon Little Theater. This futuristic retelling of the ancient Greek tragedy follows the story of Antigone, who buried the body of her brother, Polynices, against the edict of the ruler Creah but adds some modern twists, such as a Chorus which is a talk show program and Antigone’s ability to broadcast her crime to the cloud. Tickets are available online at the AHS GoFan website (scroll down to your preferred event and date).

Encinal High School is performing The Outsiders on November 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, at 7 p.m. This stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic coming-of-age novel tells the story of rival teen gangs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who are struggling with a range of social and emotional issues, including socio-economic differences and family dysfunction. The novel, which Hinton wrote when she was just 15, is considered one of the most influential novels ever written. Tickets are available online at Encinal’s GoFan website (scroll down to your preferred event and date).

We encourage community members to attend these performances by our talented students!

This month, Alameda Unified School District’s Student Services Department is also kicking off the 2025-26 enrollment season. That season includes both information nights for elementary, middle, and high school, and actual enrollment for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten.

Information nights for AUSD’s high schools start this fall and will take place on November 21 (ASTI), December 2 (Alameda High School), and December 5 (Encinal High School).

Information nights for middle schools also occur this fall. For Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School (grades 6-8), information nights will be held on November 12 and December 3. Information nights for Lincoln Middle School will be held November 19 (in person) and December 17 and 19 (virtual). Information nights for Wood Middle School will be held December 11 and January 15.

We encourage families interested in these information nights to visit the AUSD Enrollment web pages to double-check time and location information.

The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) information night for the Ruby Bridges, Paden, Franklin, Maya Lin, and Love Elementary School zones will be held on January 14 at Paden, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) information night for the Edison, Otis, Earhart, and Bay Farm zones will be held on January 15 at Earhart, also from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Kindergarten information nights for all elementary schools will occur on January 16 at each school. The time and location will be published on each school’s home page calendar.

Actual enrollment for TK and kindergarten will officially open online on January 27.
