Strike up the Bands

Come support AUSD’s music programs this Wednesday evening

All of Alameda’s public high-school bands will be making music this Wednesday, March 30, at the Encinal High School football field at 200 Central Ave. They will begin performing at 6:30 p.m.

Music boosters, organizations across the city that support public-school music programs, have expressed concerns about the way that the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) is funding these programs. They hope that these performances will draw attention to what they see as AUSD unfairly cutting the money to pay for music in Alameda’s public schools.

Alameda Post - AUSD music program cuts proposed

For example, Lincoln Middle School Music Boosters have informed the Alameda Post that they are circulating a petition to prevent a 40% pay cut to the music director’s salary at that school.

These boosters have requested that the school district place this and other matters that affect AUSD’s music programs before the Board of Education at its April 26 meeting.
