Fies Named Executive Director of USS Hornet Museum

The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Laura Fies as its new Executive Director, effective March 28. According to the official announcement, Fies, an accomplished and visionary leader, brings a wealth of experience to the Hornet Museum, having been the Chief Operations Officer from July 2022 through January 2024, and most recently serving as the Interim CEO.

“Since Fies joined the Hornet Museum team in August 2010 as a docent, serving as a volunteer for a year, she has worked in or managed every area of Museum operations, and has been committed to continually improving the teamwork, processes, organization, systems, and financial performance of the Hornet,” Board of Trustees Chairman Sam Lamonica stated in the announcement.

In addition to her years of hands-on experience and management, Fies holds a BA in Art History, Criticism and Conservation from UC Davis and an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University.

“As the new Museum Executive Director, she will steer the future of the Hornet Museum with her extraordinary approach to leadership and collaboration and her strong background in business development, marketing, and strategic partnering.” Lamonica stated.
