APD Tobacco Sting

After receiving complaints from residents regarding the sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes to minors (under age 21), Alameda Police Department conducted a sting operation at local businesses.

Alameda Post - APD tobacco sting targets stores selling tobacco products to minors

As part of the tobacco sting, APD sent an undercover person under age 21 into several Alameda businesses with the intent of purchasing tobacco-related products. While many businesses were in compliance with the law, some others were not and were issued citations, APD reported.

“We hope this serves as a reminder that it is illegal to sell or provide cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21,” the report stated, noting that proof of age is required when making these transactions. “Selling alcohol or tobacco to a minor is not only illegal, but it is irresponsible and harmful to the well-being of our youth. We hope to find all local businesses in compliance during our next operation.”
