Many applications from exemplary students were evaluated by a committee of seven Kiwanians, according to club leaders. Criteria included academics, leadership, financial need, community service and extracurricular activities.

The following students were chosen to receive the scholarships this year: Man Chan, Encinal High School, Key Club Scholarship; Ella Tam, Encinal High School, Herb & Jeanne Justin Scholarship; Amy Nguyen, Alameda High School, Martin & Lucille Stohr Scholarship; Brissia Perdomo, Alameda High School, Kiwanis Legacy Scholarship; Clarissa Chen, Alameda Science and Technology Institute, Kiwanis Legacy Scholarship; and Tiona Truong, Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School, for the Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship.

The awardees were recognized at the Kiwanis evening meeting on May 7, with their families and friends in attendance. Each of the students detailed plans for future careers, many in science and medicine. Kiwanians commented on how eloquent and poised they were when delivering their remarks.
