Updated: Alameda Election Results: Ashcraft, Daysog Reelected

Update: 5:53 p.m. Thu. Nov. 17

New numbersAlameda Post - Latest AC ROV update, November 17, 2022 today from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters—Unofficial Post Election Update #5—show the tallies moving closer to being complete with no change to the leaders of any races. Both the open seat on City Council and Measure E remain too close to call with several thousand ballots yet to be counted. The two undecided County races, for Supervisor of District Three and District Attorney, are still competitive but not definitive.

With the latest election results released today by Alameda County’s Registrar of Voters, the Alameda Post is confident that Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft will be reelected to a second term and City Councilmember Tony Daysog will return to Council for another term, replacing Malia Vella as Vice Mayor. Numbers released by Alameda County today at 4:06 p.m. show Ashcraft almost 5,000 votes ahead of Councilmember Trish Herrera Spencer. These new numbers now include more than two-thirds of votes cast by Alamedans in the November 8, 2022 election.

Alameda Post - Latest AC ROV update, November 16, 2022

Daysog is ahead of the other Council candidates by more than 3,000 votes. City Council’s open seat, now held by John Knox White, looks likely to go to Tracy Jensen, current Alameda Hospital Board member and previous AUSD board member. Hannah Groce, currently in third place, has closed the gap between herself and Jensen slightly, and remains ahead of former Councilmember Jim Oddie and newcomer Paul Beusterien.

In previous reports, we stated that Gary Lym and Ryan LaLonde were leading the field for the two AUSD board seats. The Post is now ready to call the race in their favor. Each of the other two candidates have fewer than half of the votes counted for LaLonde, the second place finisher.

Support of Alameda’s Measure F leads rejection by over 3,500 votes, and the Post is now confident that the measure, which raises the city’s Transient Occupancy Tax to 14%, will be approved by voters. Measure E, which could allow City Council to set their own salaries, continues to have almost 1,500 more yes votes, but remains too close to call.

Lena Tam continues to hold a 3,000 vote lead over Rebecca Kaplan to fill the County Supervisor seat for the Third district, while Pamela Price is now over 6,000 votes ahead of Terry Wiley in the District Attorney race. The Post is waiting for more ballots to be counted before deciding the winner.

The Alameda Post will continue to follow and report on the election results as they become available.
