Free, family-friendly performance presented by Rhythmix Cultural Works
Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the park! Grab your chairs and blankets, pack a picnic lunch, and dance along to the dynamic movements and traditional sounds of Sekhou Senegal’s West African music and dance ensemble on July 20, noon to 1 p.m. at Tillman Park, 220 Aughinbaugh Way (next to Bay Farm School on Bay Farm Island).
The family-friendly performance, presented by Rhythmix Cultural Works and the Alameda Recreation & Parks Department, is FREE (please RSVP online). Plus, it’s bike- and ACTransit-friendly.
About Sekhou Senegal
Twin brothers Ousseynou and Assane were born and raised in Senegal, Africa. Their family heritage originated in Mali and Guinea. Coming from a long line of griots, they are masterful poets, historians, storytellers, and keepers of West African song and dance traditions.
Ousseynou and Assane have been singing, dancing, and performing professionally since they were 13 years old. They have been lead dancers and choreographers with Le Ballet National du Senegal and the Sinomew Ballet of Senegal. They danced professionally with both ballets for more than five years, touring internationally throughout South and North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Now residing in the United States, the brothers are committed to educating people about their culture and sharing the profound beauty of their art. As artistic directors and educators, they instruct classes and master workshops in Africa, Europe, and the United States.
