This week’s Pet of the Week is brand-new to FAAS – a dream girl who lived on a farm until very recently. FAAS staff treats her beautifully–of course—but the stark difference between farm life and shelter life has left Tess a little confused. This sweet 7-year-old is trying to take this sea change in stride, but it hasn’t been easy. FAAS can’t wait to find her a home where she feels comfortable again.

Tess is a relatively rare flat-coated black retriever (think golden retriever, only a lustrous ebony), and a true treasure of both beauty and personality.
Before arriving at FAAS, Tess lived on a farm where she could come and go as she pleased. She would probably love her new home to offers the same freedom, but FAAS thinks she could be just as happy with a loving, active suburban family, especially now that she’s an older dog.

Because she grew up on the farm, Tess was not trained to walk on a leash. However, so far, she’s done great on her first few walks with FAAS staff. She’s very affectionate and goes from person to person seeking pets and attention. She’s great with strangers; although she’s still understandably doing some nervous panting, she’s friendly and wags her big fluffy tail.
Read more about this former farm girl on her FAAS bio page. You can meet her any day but Monday, from 12-4 p.m., at the FAAS main shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way. Or come to FAAS’s Summer Adoption Event today (Saturday, July 20) from 11-4 to meet her and her fellow shelter residents. For the remainder of this month, all adult animal adoption fees are just $20.
