Pet of the Week for April 5, 2025
Teddy is a quirky, playful goofball who is looking for a home with a yard where he can expend his bull terrier energy.

Staff and volunteers at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter love this five-year-old bull terrier—and Teddy loves them right back. He adores people, and can do well with other dogs after a proper introduction.
What Teddy might not love is the first part of this sentence from the AKC bull terrier page describing his breed’s look: “The breed’s hallmark is a long, egg-shaped head with erect and pointed ears, and small, triangular eyes that glisten with good humor.”
Teddy does have that classic bull terrier head, but it’s actually very cute. And his eyes definitely do glisten with merriment. He loves life and new places. Yet, as befits his breed, he’s sometimes so aloof you’d swear he could testify under oath that he’d never met you.

Teddy does need a yard for his exuberance, but ideally it wouldn’t be grassy. FAAS staff has discovered he has a grass allergy, which means he should avoid it as much as possible. Fortunately there are plenty of places to walk without grass, and lots of trails even in nature that aren’t of the grassy persuasion.
FAAS staff and volunteers have discovered something very endearing about Teddy—he has taken to napping under his elevated dog bed. There’s just enough space for him to squish under it, and sometimes all you can see are his hind legs splayed out. (See photo.)

You can meet this adorable character, whose official name is Teddy Graham, Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the FAAS main shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way.
