Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda for April 7, 2024
It was a bit melancholy around the press room here this week. April 2, 2006, is the birthday of the founding roving reporter and namesake for the Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda. I still have a hard time finding the words to describe the impact Bear had on so many Alamedans who followed his reporting. I am so grateful to be able to follow in his paw prints, and I am honored to do my part. In recognition of his birthday this year, I think he would want to help out Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS), and I have an idea how to do so:
As I walk around the streets of Alameda with my human companion, we find lots of good stuff that people are giving away. Some of the items need a little TLC and others (like plants) need a bit more work. For this year’s Rainbow Birthday, I want to make a big donation to the FAAS Starfish Fund, which allocates money for emergency medical care for the animals that wind up at FAAS. My human companion says that he will match the amount raised, up to $500.
Today (Sunday, April 7), I will be putting out a bunch of the stuff I have collected and having a yard sale. You can drop by 2031 Alameda Avenue between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to see the items that are available. You can pay in cash or make the donation directly to the Starfish Fund from your phone.

There is a girl’s bike that includes a tune up from Alameda Bicycle and a wine opener that comes with a bottle of Urban Legend wine.
If you have some type of vision impairment, I have a phone with really big buttons, and we have a large assortment of succulents available too!

For all of you that have had the great fortune to share your life with a pet that has now crossed the rainbow bridge, please take a moment to remember them and all that you shared together.
