On the road again

Alameda Post - shadows on the sidewalk of two humans and one dog

After six weeks of being chaperoned around my neighborhood and sequestered to the backyard, I am finally back on the trail of the next big scoop with my HC (human companion). Thursday found me walking on Alameda streets with him even though he still hasn’t recovered enough to stay in control if I see another dog or detect a squirrel. However, he was strong enough to walk unaided and with confidence.

Alameda post - construction on Central Avenue

My first walk was to check out the construction at 1619 Central Avenue to see the progress on this major renovation. While the exterior had not changed, there was some major action on the street where the gas line runs to the house.

Alameda post - a Tom turkey in full display

I was happy to see a familiar sight that I had missed these past weeks—I met a big Tom turkey on Alameda Avenue at Lafayette Street. After exchanging pleasantries, I was off to the Franklin Park area.

Alameda Post - the spray painted outline of a rat stencil

I think I was on Morton Street near San Antonio Avenue when I discovered several stenciled images on the sidewalk. There were many bats sprayed in red or black, but the image that caught my eye was the one of the blue rat.

Alameda Post - a man hole cover

On a curious note, I found a Hecho en India manhole cover that prompted the question of why someone would use a manhole cover from India and pay all that shipping cost when it should be cheaper to buy one made in the good old USA?

Alameda Post - a large metal S and some whimsical masks on the sidewalk

Someone was giving away a really nice “S” made of metal and a collection of masks.

Alameda post - a flower and a bee

Before we started walking together, I had started to collect more images of the beautiful flowers that are now blooming in people’s yards. One of them had a bee gathering pollen. It’s in the lower right-hand corner.

Alameda Post - a tip jar that says Happy Easter with a snoopy and woodstock drawing

It seems that we will be celebrating Easter a bit later this year, but the folks at Feel Good Bakery were in the Easter mood and decorated their tip jar with my favorite Easter beagle.

I will be celebrating the original roving reporter’s birthday next week and will report back on those festivities.

See you on the street.
