Missing a piece?

Alameda Post - a puzzle piece on the sidewalk

When I saw this single puzzle piece laying on the sidewalk, I imagined this scene with a family gathered around the “puzzle table” dropping the last few remaining pieces into the picture only to discover one piece was missing. I wish I could be there to pass along these words of wisdom: “It’s not the destination that matters. It’s the journey.” Author unknown.

On my Tuesday walk, I happened to be on Clement Avenue and caught a glimpse of this mini street sweeper cleaning up the Cross Alameda Trail. It was really cute.

Alameda Post - a tip jar with peanuts cartoon characters on it dressed in Easter costumes

Last Sunday was Easter, but since I have to turn in my reports several days before Sunday, I may be a bit later in recognizing certain items that reflect the day, like the nice tulip flag that greeted family members arriving for Easter dinner, or the Snoopy Easter bunny graphic on the tip jar at Feel Good Bakery.

Alameda Post - two flags outside of homes. One resembles a pirate flag with a bunny and crossed carrots. THe other is a sort of purple and pink trident

Speaking of flags, I found two that I have no understanding of what they represent. I know those of you who follow my Sunday reports are highly intelligent and could let me know the significance of these two flags.

Alameda Post - the Islamic Center of Alameda building

It had been a long time since I had been on the west end of Alameda, and I promise I will get my HC (human companion) to get me over to Webster Street in the near future. I did make it as far as Ninth Street and Santa Clara Avenue to check out the newly completed Islamic Center of Alameda building. This was a long time in the making, and they did a really nice job.

I also made it over to Island Drive (Bay Farm) in hopes of checking out the construction of the new FAAS Animal Medical Services & Training Campus, but I needed to make an appointment. So, I will be rescheduling that report. On the way back, I stopped by the Grandview Pavilion. What’s going on with this place? The tent was in really bad shape. Anybody know the scoop?

Alameda Post - a list titled Toxic Food for Dogs which includes alcohol, avocado, chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic xylitol, macadamia nuts, raw dough, cherries, coffee, cinnamon, and lemon

My HC wanted me to share a post he saw that showed all the foods that are toxic to us canines. As a public service, please check out the list. I cannot believe that raw dough is on the list. I must confess that I had the opportunity to sample raw chocolate chip cookie dough when my HC had to get the phone while plopping the scoops onto a baking sheet. What a delicacy.

Alameda Post - garden art made out of metal that appears to be a bee drinking nectar from a flower

Finally, I would like to know what happened to the weather this week. Don’t get me wrong. With this fur coat I am always wearing, I can appreciate weather in the 50s all day long, but my HC gets whiny about how cold it is and that everything hurts. Mind you, I totally understand the effect this weather has on his new knee so I try to be more understanding when the walks get cut short or I’m just let out into the backyard. We still managed to find some nice garden art.

This week he celebrated the 60-day post-op milestone. He’s up to four one-mile walks a day and can now navigate the seven steps up the porch and the 13 steps to get to the second floor. He is still a bit shaky going downstairs, but he keeps improving each day.

He’s talking about taking me out solo with no walker and no net. I told him that he needs to fill the treat porch with high-value butcher shop quality steak treats if he expects to ignore my instincts. We shall see how this goes.

Until the next report, “let’s be careful out there.”
