April 2, 2006 was the birthday of the founding roving reporter and namesake for Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda. I am a little late in recognizing this very special birthday, because there was so much going on with my human companion (HC) getting back out on the street.
Celebrating the birthday of a companion that has crossed over the rainbow bridge can bring up so many emotions. There is the joy of remembering all the great times and shared experiences and then the sadness of that relationship ending. My HC has so many memories of his time with Bear, and I can sense the sadness he feels even with the passing of time.
I would like to provide the opportunity for readers to share their experiences with their companion animals, whether that may be a canine, feline, or any other member of the animal kingdom. If you would like to share an experience, please write a short (100 words) commemoration and send it to me at [email protected]. I will go through them and pick out a few to include in future reports.
On this occasion, I like to recognize Bear’s birthday by supporting Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter. After all, they provided me with the best care any unhoused dog could have.
Those of you that follow my reports know about the rogue tomato plant that spontaneously started growing in the planting strip in front of my house. Well, it survived the winter and is continuing to grow. My HC took a few tomatoes from last year’s crop and planted them to see if he could get them to make new plants.
We now have over 100 seedlings that are just about ready for planting outdoors. For a donation to FAAS and the Starfish Medical Fund, we will deliver these seedlings (up to four plants, while supply lasts) to your Alameda location. You can reach out directly to my HC to get all the details at [email protected].
For all of you who have had the great fortune to share your life with a pet that has now crossed the rainbow bridge, please take a moment to remember them and all that you shared together.
For next week’s report, I answer the question, “What is all that pounding sound?”
Best,
Mouf, Roving Reporter
