“We’re gonna need a bigger barrel”

Alameda Post - An overflowing donation barrel for pet food outside of Grocery Outlet.

The FAAS “Fill the Pantry” campaign I reported on last week is rolling right along. I want to thank everyone who has donated so far and encourage others to take a moment to drop off a bag of kibble or a can of food to Grocery Outlet, the Southshore Adoption Center, or the shelter on Fortman. One can never have too much dog and cat food in the pantry this time of year when the need is so great.

I stopped by Grocery Outlet on Sunday afternoon before the donations in the barrel were picked up, and it was pretty full. My human companion (HC) said, “Mouf, we’re gonna need a bigger barrel!” and told me he had a great idea for my report. I have come to recognize this as a “Danger Will Robinson moment.”

He asked if I had heard of Artificial Intelligence. My chin hit the floor! This is the guy who thinks the Beach Boys are the greatest rock and roll band of all time (he still owns an 8 track player), has a granite slab as a planner, and uses a hammer and chisel to add appointment dates and times… in Roman numerals!

Anyway, I digress. He came up with this picture of me and two guys after chatting with someone named GPT. I still can’t figure out what a food drive has to do with catching a shark, but when your HC is also your publisher, you don’t want to say no to the person who distributes your weekly reports, takes you on a bunch of walks, and controls the treat dispenser, just to preserve journalistic integrity.

For those of you like me who are totally in the dark, here’s a clip of the scene in the movie that inspired his burst of creativity.

Personally, I think this Golden has AI technology down. Something for me to aspire to.

After seeing so many great yard displays for Halloween, I was a little depressed at the lack of attention given to the Thanksgiving holiday. I did find a few inflatable turkeys over on Oak Street and a banner on Minturn Street. The beautiful magnolia blossoms are a sure sign that fall is here. If you see any outdoor Thanksgiving or general fall scenes, please email my HC at [email protected]. I am getting desperate.

I did get over to Charlotte’s house to get a preview of her fall season installation. It was shaping up nicely, and I am looking forward to getting back to 1615 Chapin Street to see the final exhibit.

There were plenty of signs that the fall season is well underway. We had our first Alameda “snow” storm that covered the cars, and I love how the leaves make a mosaic on the sidewalk and street.

The sidewalk artist made another appearance on Alameda Avenue near Grand Street. It only lasted a few days until the rain erased their work.

Ob*ses*sion  noun

A persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling.

My HC was digging up the dead tomato vines when he hit another one of the roots from the black acacia tree that was cut down several years ago and proceeded to dig… and dig… and dig. I will just leave it at that.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and don’t forget to give thanks (treats) to your furry friends.
