New Ambulance for Bay Farm Island Fire Station #4

Bay Farm Island Fire Station #4 got a brand new Advanced Life Support ambulance on Tuesday, August 23. A-Shift Medic 4 Crew Firefighter/EMT Ryan Tunney and Firefighter/Paramedic Nick Bowerman placed the new Medical 4 in-service unit into service with a traditional push into the apparatus bay.

The new ambulance’s aging predecessor was in need of replacement, according to Alameda Fire Department’s Instagram announcement. Replacing the older ambulance “mirrors our newer ambulance build-ups of the last several years,” AFD stated. “The consistency and capabilities of these newer ambulances will service the public well.”

The Alameda Fire Department staffs four ambulances within the City of Alameda at each fire station. These Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances are staffed with Alameda firefighters who also respond to fires and other emergencies.

Because ALS ambulances are staffed with at least one paramedic, crucial lifesaving treatment can be provided for patients in serious or critical condition before and during transport to an emergency facility.

Alameda Fire expressed it thanks to all the members who took part in the process of getting this new ambulance into service, “from the design phase to the stocking of the new rig to get it in service.” All of Alameda joins in that gratitude.
