Alameda Education Association, California School Employees Associations CSEA-27 and CSEA-860 ratify agreements after extended bargaining with AUSD
The Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) announced on April 26 that the Board of Education voted on April 16 to approve a 7% ongoing salary increase for all three of AUSD’s bargaining units—the Alameda Education Association, California School Employees Associations CSEA-27 and CSEA-860. The unions have also ratified the agreements.

Of that salary increase, 6% is retroactive to July 1, 2023, and 1% is retroactive to January 1, 2024.
Additionally, in a historically significant increase to benefits, the unions and AUSD agreed that AUSD would increase its contribution to health benefits to a maximum of $1,021.41 per month ($12,256.00 per year), irrespective of how many family members are on the plan.
“This agreement makes a historic investment in retaining our talented workforce and making us more competitive for attracting new employees,” AUSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Tim Erwin told the Board of Education at the April 16 meeting.
The Alameda Education Association represents teachers, nurses, speech and language pathologists, and counselors. CSEA-27 represents office/technical workers and paraprofessionals, and CSEA-860 represents custodial, maintenance, and food service workers.
Money for the raise comes from several sources, including current and one-time state revenues that will be spread out over several years, current and future discretionary funds, and Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) supplemental funds.
“We continue to do our best to keep up with salary increases in other districts around the county, despite the fact that we get less state revenue than many of these districts,” said Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi. “Funding these raises will require us to make hard decisions over the coming years, but I am confident that our leadership team and the entire AUSD community will understand that this is in the interests of finding and keeping high-quality educators for the students in this town.”
AUSD Board President Jennifer Williams added, “The Board of Education would like to thank both bargaining teams for their persistence, creativity, and willingness to collaborate in the interests of AUSD employees. With the new contributions to health benefits, I think we have truly entered into a new phase of being able to support our staff and students.”
Non-represented management employees will receive the same salary and benefits increase.
