Fifteen people have filed paperwork in hopes of becoming the new Alameda County District Attorney, including Alameda City Attorney Yibin Shen. Shen provided a statement to the Alameda Post about the decision to submit an application.
“With immense appreciation for the Council’s support, and encouragement from many elected officials and community leaders, I am grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to submit my application to be Alameda’s next District Attorney,” Shen said in a statement to the Post.
“I look forward to sharing my vision for the District Attorney’s Office with the Board of Supervisors in the coming days and weeks ahead,” he added.
Prior to being the Alameda City Attorney, Shen was the Chief Deputy City Attorney for the City of Santa Monica, where he oversaw the Code Enforcement and Municipal Divisions, supervised 10 attorneys and five support staff, led the City’s regulatory prosecutorial efforts, and provided legal advice on a wide range of topics, including First Amendment, tenant protections, law enforcement, homelessness, land use, environmental protection, sustainability, conflicts, and the Brown Act.
The county’s Board of Supervisors will pick one of the 15 applicants by January 16. Whoever they choose will serve until the next general election in November 2026. Currently, Royl Roberts is serving as interim DA.
In addition to Shen, other applicants include: Attorney Miiko Anderson, Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Annie Esposito, Alameda County Superior Judge Ursula Jones Dickson, Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Simona Farrise Best, Prosecutor with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office Amilcar C. “Butch” Ford, Chief Deputy to the California Attorney General Venus D. Johnson, Alameda County Deputy County Counsel Latricia D. Louis, Senior Deputy District Alameda County DA Elgin Lowe, Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Kwixuan Maloof, Attorney Ocean Mottley, Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice Arvon Perteet, former Santa Clara County Assistant District Attorney Scott Tsui, Executive Director of The Crucible Ian “Seth” Steward, and Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Jimmie Wilson.
