Alameda’s Dance/10 Performing Arts Center joined forces with the Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus (OaklandGMC) over the weekend of July 11-13 for a powerful performance of “Circle of Life” during OaklandGMC’s summer concert I’m Still Standing: A Tribute to Elton John.

The special number highlighted not only the artistry of both organizations but also their shared commitment to fostering inclusion, expression, and community through the performing arts. The Dance/10 students, who were in the midst of producing and performing in five recitals for their own summer showcase, Destination: Dance, brought vibrant choreography and energy to the stage while uniting generations and identities in a shared moment of celebration and purpose.

“This was more than a performance, it was a true collaboration between two organizations who believe in the transformative power of the arts,” said Dance/10 owner and director Ryan Justus, who also is also a performing member and board member of OaklandGMC. “Our students got to see how their talents can make an impact beyond the studio, and be part of something deeply meaningful.”

Dance/10, a fixture in the Alameda arts community for more than 41 years, continues to build a space where dancers of all ages and backgrounds can grow, express themselves, and experience the joy of performance. Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus is a celebrated vocal ensemble known for its commitment to diversity, social justice, and musical excellence.

The partnership exemplifies how local arts organizations can work together to uplift communities, create dialogue, and celebrate identity. Both OaklandGMC and Dance/10 remain committed to providing inclusive, affirming opportunities that build bridges across generations and experiences.
