The Alameda International Film Festival (AIFF) returns to the historic Alameda Theatre & Cineplex in downtown Alameda February 22-25, 2024. The four-day festival is bigger and better than ever, screening more than 40 features and shorts along with multiple filmmaker Q&A sessions and behind-the-scenes panel discussions.
Oscar-nominated animation legend Bill Plympton, famous for decades of brilliant, compelling, and twisted features (The Tune, Idiots and Angels) and shorts (Your Face, Guard Dog, How to Kiss) comes to Alameda for an in-person screening of his new feature film, Slide, on Saturday, February 24. Plympton also will host an animation master class and join a live panel discussion with industry leaders from Pixar, Laika, and Fox animation, including animators from Luca, Coraline, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
This follows an opening night (Thursday, February 22) screening of No Right Way, a hilarious dark comedy about a brazen tween and her estranged half-sister thrust into guardianship. Director/Writer/Star Chelsea Bo will be in attendance to discuss her film.
On Friday, February 23 the documentary Dr. Eddie Henderson: Uncommon Genius will be screened with a special guest—the renowned jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson himself. The film tells the tale of the New York-born and San Francisco-raised wunderkind, whose first trumpet lessons were given by Louis Armstrong and who counted Miles Davis as a family friend. Find out more about his incredible story and meet the man himself as well as the film’s director, Michelle Carpenter.
Saturday and Sunday, February 24-25, will feature a mix of independent short films throughout the day as well as the aforementioned feature, Slide, on Saturday night. These narrative, documentary, and animated shorts highlight the diversity of the 2024 AIFF roster of filmmakers from around the corner and around the globe, many of whom will be in attendance to discuss their work.
The awards ceremony on Sunday will recognize select filmmakers with thousands of dollars in prizes. Don’t miss opportunity to enjoy cutting-edge films, meet the filmmakers, and join in celebrating them. Remember, the next big thing always gets its start in the film festival circuit. So grab a bag of popcorn and a soda—or a glass of wine or beer—and be a part of AIFF 2024. Festival passes and individual tickets are on sale now.
