As we’ve already seen, winter weather here in Alameda is highly variable—and can be extreme. We’ve had everything from atmospheric rivers and storm surges to beautiful warm days.

In January, the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle, lovingly known as Woodstock, will be getting custom window coverings on half of the boat to make for a more comfortable ride in bad weather. This is a pilot service, so covered waiting areas won’t yet be added to the shuttle stops, unfortunately.
Throughout the winter, the water shuttle will continue to operate on the expanded schedule that started in November (see below). Rain alone does not cancel service—winds are the real issue.
Shuttle runs will only be cancelled if the operator feels it’s unsafe to operate the boat, in which case an alert will be issued. To get these alerts via text or email, sign up for SF Bay Ferry’s BayAlerts. Select “Route OAS – Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle.” Service disruptions will also be posted as a banner on the SF Bay Ferry’s Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle web page.
Expanded schedule
As of early November, the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle schedule includes:
- 52 additional trips per week (eight more trips on Wednesdays and Thursdays; 12 more trips on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
- Higher frequency service.
- Two service schedules—one for Wednesday and Thursday, and one for Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
This schedule will remain in place through March 2025.
Rider survey
Woodstock’s first rider survey is coming in early 2025. Participants will be asked how they use the service, as well as opinions about the schedule and how service could be expanded. “We know you have ideas and look forward to hearing them!”
