Tariq the Unicorn

Pet of the Week for March 15, 2025

Tall, handsome Tariq is one of those unicorn dogs who possesses everything that makes a stellar pet.

He’s a low-key, happy, friendly one-year-old pup who is good with everyone including adults, children, strangers, and other dogs. (FAAS doesn’t know how he does with cats.) He’s easy to walk, loves to run and be chased, and adores cuddling as well.

Tariq is house-trained (of course). He knows the basic commands—sit, down, stay, come. And as a special bonus, he has some of the most endearing swivel-ears you’ve likely ever seen on a dog.

He’d be a great family pet.

There’s only one small imperfection. Tariq’s previous owners said that while he’s a good boy when left alone for a few hours, he will chew when he finally becomes bored. That’s normal for a year-old pup, but you’ll want to be sure to keep toys on hand if you’ll be gone and leaving him alone at home for a while. FAAS will help you figure out which will work best for him.

You can meet this big, blond, beautiful pup from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way, Alameda.
