Pet of the Week for November 9, 2024
Would you like someone to quietly listen to you with all their heart and make you feel loved and understood and maybe even a little taken care of? If so, FAAS has two sweet, shy German shepherds you might want to meet.
River is a cautious 70-ish-pound guy who takes a while to come out of his shell, but when he does, he is all love and devotion.
This handsome 2-year-old seems to gain confidence from playdates with other friendly dogs who give him a little space in the beginning, so if you have a dog who “reads” other dogs well, it could be a great fit. A regular playmate he enjoys is a good alternative. A quiet, calm home is probably best for River.
Starr is also a 2-year-old who weighs 70-ish pounds, and like River, she’s initially timid. It takes a little time for her to feel comfortable with new people, but once she does, she’s affectionate and bursting with love. The photo with her heart-melting head tilt shows how attentive she can be when you talk to her.
A volunteer who walked her said, “Once she relaxed, she let me know that she loves gentle ear scratches and is a snuggle bear. Very delicate and gentle. She is an amazing girl.”
Unlike River, Starr isn’t always so sure about other dogs, so a home without another dog would likely be best for her.
If either of these beauties sounds appealing, you can meet them at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way, from noon to 4 p.m. any day but Monday.
