When one art door closes, another one opens. Mastick Senior Center, a division of the Alameda Recreation & Parks Department, is hosting two art events on Saturday, April 25—the closing reception for its current Multimedia Art Exhibit and their one-day Spring Art Boutique.

The annual Multimedia Art Exhibit showcases Mastick artists and provides an opportunity for them to sell their work to promote the center’s art classes and creative community. The closing reception, which starts at 11 a.m. in the Senior Center Lobby, 1155 Santa Clara Avenue, will provide a final opportunity to view the exhibit before it is taken down.
The exhibit features pieces from Mastick’s Ceramics, Frame Weaving, Drawing and Painting, Chinese Ink Painting, Stained Glass and Mosaics, and Jewelry Making programs. The collection highlights work from both seasoned artists and beginners who began their artistic journey at Mastick.
Many of the pieces on display will be available for purchase, offering a chance to take home a unique, handmade work of art while supporting our creative community. Proceeds from art sales help support Mastick’s art programs.
The closing reception will include a few remarks from Mastick’s art instructors and office staff. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
The Spring Art Boutique starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. in the center’s social hall, next to the popular thrift store, which is at the same address but faces 1538 St. Charles Street. It will be Mastick’s second art boutique since 2020 and features the work of 30 local artists, according to Mastick Administrative Assistant Sylvie Schmid.
“Handcrafted items—just in time for Mother’s Day—include ceramics, stained glass, weaving, handmade cards, garden art, fabric arts, needle arts (hats, scarves, etc.), cat items, tempting food creations, tallow, jewelry, fused glass, honey, paintings, mosaics, photography key chains, pot holders, and reinvented clothing,” Schmid noted.
Sounds like the perfect activity for a spring day.
