The holiday season can be full of joy for those who can afford to join in the pleasure of giving and receiving gifts, but it can be very difficult for those who are experiencing hardships. Sometimes a small gesture like a gift card to choose something needed or something out of reach can mean a lot to a child or a family in need.
That’s why the Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth, and their Families (ACCYF) Youth Advocacy Committee, All Good Living Foundation, and Dignity Village have joined together to organize a gift card drive for the holiday season. The partnership’s goal is to bring more joy to Dignity Village residents during this festive time of year.
Dignity Village is Alameda’s largest interim supportive housing complex, with 47 units and 61 beds.
“The goal of the gift card drive is to raise funds and collect gift cards for residents so they can celebrate during the holiday season as members of our community,” said Leelou Leary, ACCYF Vice President of Committees. Leary is a junior at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School.
“To make this initiative successful, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to make the holiday season feel a little warmer,” Leary noted.
