Ingrid: A Big Pup with a Big Heart

Pet of the Week for August 17, 2024

When big, sweet Ingrid arrived at FAAS as a stray, she was scared, shut down, and seemed very sad.

“It was so heartbreaking to see her like this,” says FAAS Enrichment and Training Manager Leah Lewis. “Fortunately we saw that food is the way to her heart.”

That was the first step to gaining her trust. She started letting staff give her lots of love and attention.

“She’s a different dog now,” says Leah.

The 2-year-old Cane Corso is still a little shy when you first meet her, but she warms up quickly. “Once you’re in with Ingrid, you’re in!” Leah says.

Ingrid has been showing staff her fun, silly side lately. She loves to chase toys and balls. Those huge legs with their giant paws mean she’s across the play yard in about four long loping strides.

Speaking of paws, she delights in shaking hands. She offers it with gusto, especially when there’s a tasty morsel waiting as a reward.

More about Ingrid:

  • She walks quite well on leash, and is working on loose-leash skills.
  • She has not been reactive to other dogs.
  • Because of her size—and ability to practically leap tall buildings in a single bound—FAAS recommends families with teens or older.

Here are two videos to show just what a silly and happy dog she is:
