Halloween Aftermath

Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda for November 5, 2023

Even though Halloween is over, and most of the decorations are packed away, I hope you all realized that I was going to squeeze one more report in about my favorite holiday.

Alameda Post - Bear's-Eye View of Alameda for November 5, 2023. A collage of candy wrappers left over from Halloween.

As predicted, there were plenty of candy wrappers along my walking route, especially on Grand Street. This provided this reporter with some insight into what Alameda residents were giving out this year. While everyone knows that chocolate—especially dark chocolate—is really bad for us canines, I am always on guard for the hidden killer: Xylitol. It is the canine version of fentanyl. Hopefully, everyone, canine and human, had a safe and enjoyable Halloween.

Although I usually include still images in my reports, Halloween lends itself to delivering my reports by video. It is much better for showing the motion in any of the displays, and it gives my human companion something to contribute besides walks and treats for me. It also lets him add some music to the report.

The first video showcases the two pirate-themed displays that I was not able to fit in before. Several people commented on the music my human companion added to the last report, so I asked for some additional info on the song. It’s titled, “Whale of a Tale,” and it’s from the 1954 Walk Disney movie Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Somebody named Kirk Douglas sings the song.  Apparently, this movie inspired little Jeffie to want to be a marine biologist, and he begged me to include a short clip from the movie, which is included at the end of this video.

Bay Farm Island was a little light on the number of Halloween displays this year, and while I was able to include a few images in the last report, I wanted to give a shoutout to this house that always does some type of yard décor for the major holidays.

The third video covers the house on Chapin Street that did an over-the-top job of decorating the front yard. A high-four from me to CT for their incredible job of demonstrating true Alameda Halloween spirit.

I don’t think there’s much left to do as far as covering Halloween for this year, but now that the celebration is over, I get to start showcasing the fall season colors and complain about the early appearance of other holiday decorations.

Did you know there are only 50 days till Christmas??

Happy Holi-daze,

Bear's paws
