Bike Walk Alameda is spreading the news—their biking and walking map just got a glow up!
“With our stash of printed maps running low—and a lot changing around Alameda since the last 2022 edition—we figured it was time for an update,” they posted in an announcement on the Bike Walk Alameda website. “And rather than rush another print run, we’re going digital (for now).”

Bike Walk Alameda made the decision to go digital for “a few good reasons.” First off, new bike infrastructure is “popping up all over the island” in the next year or two. Also, they want your feedback so they can continue to improve the map. And finally, they haven’t yet updated the back of the print map or lined up sponsors.
The announcement and release of the new digital map was timed to be available for the upcoming Bike to Wherever Day on May 14, so participants can use it to plan routes and explore with confidence.
You can download the new map now. It shows:
- Infrastructure: Improvements to the Cross Alameda Trail, Grand, Central, Pacific, and more.
- New bikeway types: Buffered bike lanes, bi-directional bikeways, and the San Francisco Bay Trail. The map also includes a designation of “Common Bike Route” to show routes that people commonly take where improved infrastructure is not available (be sure to bear that in mind if you choose to use those routes).
- Less clutter: Bike Walk Alameda map glower-uppers trimmed the extras to focus on getting around and to spotlight what‘s on the ground now.
