On to the City Council
I want to give a double high-four to all of you who contacted the City regarding its failure to even mention the animal shelter in its civic facilities report. Thanks to you, the shelter was not only included in the staff report that will be presented to the City Council this Tuesday, but the report changed the cost of a new shelter from around $26M to $68M due to the cost of special construction requirements for animal shelters.
Our next task is to be sure that the language of the bond measure clearly states that a portion of the bond money will be used to build an animal shelter. Everyone needs to contact the City Council and tell them that your support for the measure depends on having that language appear on the ballot.
The easiest way to do that is to send an email to Lara Weisiger, the City Clerk, at [email protected] indicating that you want to have the bond measure include language to say that a portion of the money raised will go to building a new animal shelter.
Now onto this week’s report.
I was a little disappointed at the number of 4th of July yard decorations this year. In reviewing past reports, major streets like Grand Street had many houses adorned in red, white, and blue bunting, banners, and other patriotic objects. Not so this year.
Fortunately, our good friend Charlotte came through with another masterful yard display to recognize our nation’s 250th. Be sure to check it out at 1615 Chapin Street.
There was a very unusual vehicle parked in front of Alameda High School this week. I enjoyed the artwork that appeared on the side. I assumed it will make an appearance in the 4th of July parade.
Since I was at the high school, I stopped by to see how the AUSD pool project was progressing. The pools themselves are coming along nicely, and the major work right now appears to be setting very tall poles in the ground for the fence.
This week I discovered Dog-O’s Ice Cream for Dogs. It was delicious.
Next week, I will be providing an update on the Mouf for Mayor campaign.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration. Personally, I will be huddled up in a ball in the corner of the bed with my human companion freaking out at all the loud booms. I hate this day!
