Support the Pup
This week, the MOUF FOR MAYOR stickers arrived at campaign headquarters and are ready for distribution. If you get me your address by a social media DM or email to [email protected], my human companion (HC) will drop one in the mail. He appreciates you supporting this pup in his bid for mayor.
Alternatively, my good friend, campaign supporter, and owner of the Pampered Pup — Tony Yu — has a stack of them and has offered to make them available if you drop by the corner of Park Street and Central Avenue. You don’t have to make a purchase, but if you don’t, you’ll miss out on one heck of a great hot dog. As a mayoral candidate, one of my major positions is the need for a new animal shelter since the current building received an “F” rating from the City. As part of a visioning exercise for the new shelter, I realized that Alameda, which is surrounded by water, has no place where canines can enjoy an ocean dip, legally creating an irreconcilable contradiction. I am adding the need for a water feature to the list of amenities needed at the new shelter.
While checking out the many wonderful resident’s yards, I found a couple of canine art pieces. I think the artist who did the Basset sculpture didn’t get the ears right, but the abstract metal sculpture definitely captures the Corgi/Dachshund vibe.
As part of my 4th of July coverage, I reported on a modified bus that was part of the parade. Well, the bus is still around and can be seen on Central Avenue in front of Alameda High School in the early morning. If you are tall enough, you will see that all the musical instruments are still inside.
As I was admiring Ozzy’s bus, I noticed that the flags at the school were at half-mast. Can someone fill me in on who passed?
I have been meaning to get over to the FAAS medical center in the Harbor Bay Business Park to check out the brick my HC purchased a few years ago, and on Thursday, I finally made it. The facility looks great with all the landscaping in bloom.
I reached out to FAAS to see if I could get a few images of the inside, and Liz Ordway passed along several great shots. THANKS, LIZ!
I did find the plaque that my HC purchased. It had the names of all the dogs that have impacted his life and brought him joy. It is a touching acknowledgement of the impact we have on our human companions. I do have some mixed feelings about having my name on a plaque that memorializes dogs that have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I am planning on being around for a long time, but I do appreciate the recognition. I think he has forgotten about the Great Squirrel Incident and subsequent partial knee replacement.
My first campaign rally is scheduled for next week. I will be speaking at the squirrel convention on Alameda Avenue between Chestnut and Lafayette Streets. Fingers crossed that the immersion therapy works.
