Cookies
Yes, it’s that time of year. The Girl Scouts of Northern California are out in force in front of a bunch of retail shops offering delicious cookies with the money going for various projects, programs, trips, etc. My HC (human companion) has already purchased (and eaten) seven boxes. He’s a traditionalist and always buys lots of Thin Mints with a few boxes of Peanut Butter Cookies (formerly known as Do-Si-Dos) thrown in for variety. Be sure to support this worthwhile organization.
While I was on one of my outings, I found a very informative billboard showing the varieties and how to order them online. They even got a QR code. HC just blew it off, grumbling something about too much technology.
I have heard the expression that things can “come in threes,” and I had three unusual sightings this week that are worth sharing. Let’s start out with the Uncle Sam painted on to the shim that helps to support the utility pole. Nothing like a bit of patriotism.
Next up is this really nice pirate ship made out of real wood (not plastic) with cloth sails and fancy emblems. I thought it might have been put out for International Talk Like a Pirate Day, but that isn’t until September 19. This parodic holiday was created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers from Oregon and was declared to let everyone channel their inner Jack Sparrow.
The third and most unusual item I came across was a box of what my HC called “cassette tapes.” He was all excited because some were from Fleetwood Mac and Genesis. I think he wanted to take them home and play them on some machine he pulled out of the attic.
I have been watching a house on Lafayette Street for the past few months as first the inside and then the outside got a major facelift. This past week, I walked by the house and was moved by the way the light illuminated the area. It reminded me of one of those American heritage paintings. With some help from my HC, I got the photo converted to a painting and even he was impressed with …. don’t say it … the technology.
The combination of rain at the beginning of the week and the bright sunny ending of the week brought out the cherry blossoms along Alameda Avenue. Such a beautiful and delicate flower.
At my house, there is a lot going on. One night, I got the zoomies and decided to shred my bed. I think it was brought on by the anxiety of not knowing exactly what’s going to happen next week.
My HC did a bit of housecleaning and has five pounds of Peet’s Coffee and filters that he needs to get rid of. If you’re interested and would be willing to make a donation to FAAS, it can be yours. Shoot my HC an email at [email protected].
Finally, my HC went into the Stanford surgery center on Monday for his partial knee replacement. What is unbelievable is that he will be coming home the same afternoon. Even though he won’t be doing any dog walking for a few weeks, that doesn’t mean the Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda will be hitting the “paws” button. I have put together a few “evergreen” reports that will be posted until things start to get back to normal.
I am looking forward to using the brand-new dog door that exits onto the new deck.
Best to you all.
