SPECIAL REPORT: FAAS Canine Christmas
Since I got the roving reporter job here at the Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda, December 25th has become a joyous day of celebration. I am truly grateful for all the humans that helped me on my journey to my forever home, especially the great folks at FAAS (Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter). Lots of walks with the volunteers, staff taking care of my needs, and great food—excellent care.
I also recall spending Christmas Day of 2020 in the shelter while the office was closed. It was really quiet. “Not a creature was stirring. Not even a mouse.” I missed seeing the staff and all the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day operation.
With those feelings in mind, I want to make sure that all the canines in the shelter have an extra special day. This year, I teamed up with the FAAS folks and BabsAnn Clark-Kenney—another FAAS supporter—to make it happen.
I picked out my favorite treats and stuffed them into special holiday stockings.
LP and my friend Li’l Dude came over and helped on the assembly line process.
It was a very efficient process which made an impressive pile on the kitchen table. The end result was pretty darn cute… and smelled amazing!
I just started squirrel therapy, and I am already up to 10 of the little critters at one time.
My human companion helped me deliver the stockings to the shelter earlier this week and got the video of the special day. It is heartwarming.
I want to remind everyone that FAAS always has a need for volunteer dog walkers, foster homes (especially around the holidays), and, of course, folks that are willing to give them a forever home. Donations are appreciated in any amount and any time of year.
OH! A special thanks to Pagano’s Hardware for providing the zip ties to hang the stockings.
Thank you to everyone that helped out at FAAS this year. I am so grateful for the opportunity to pay it forward for the great care I received while I was there.
Happy Holidays to all!
