Christmas continued… (of course)

Alameda Post - Mouf wishes you all very happy holidays

Alameda street scenes continue to be dominated by holiday displays, and once again, residents have stepped up to make the streets festive with a bunch of canine-themed yard scenes.

This week’s report includes two videos of all the holiday decorations I checked out this week. In covering Alameda’s Christmas Tree Lane, (which is actually Thompson Avenue for you Google Maps folks,) I again decided to use daytime images of the scenes to be able to see more of the details.

Alameda Post - an inflatable Christmas decoration, deflated

Of course, not all the displays lend themselves to a daytime visit, like this deflated gingerbread person. LOL! This same video also covers the yard of my good friend Tucker and his neighbor’s yard over on Morton Street, which also had some fun canine decor.

My second video this week is a collection of all the other holiday decorations I found, including a trip to City Hall, the Fernside area, South Shore Shopping Center, Harbor Bay, and the West End of our lovely island.

Alameda Post - a Halloween skeleton repurposed as a Santa Christmas decoration and a Snoopy decoration

I was overjoyed to find the Halloween skeleton repurposed as a seasonally appropriate Santa Claus, and even more so to find my hero Snoopy appearing as a cookie jar on someone’s stoop.

Alameda Post - a foggy morning

While holiday decorations were front and center during my reporting this week, life did go on in other aspects. Early in the week, we experienced a lot of rain and wind, which contributed to a large street tree on Central Avenue splitting. Thursday morning was really cold and unusually foggy, too.

With all the moisture, a few fungi popped up.

Alameda Post - two photos of Mouf in a raincoat, looking unhappy

In a very unusual, out of character move, my HC bought me a raincoat! I guess he got tired of all the water that I shake off once I get into the house… or maybe it’s the aroma of wet dog? However, it would seem he is dimensionally impaired, because the first coat was a bit short in the rear end department. Fortunately, he got it right with the reorder.

By the way, does anyone want a free raincoat? It would fit a smaller midsize canine, i.e. smaller than me. Free to a needy pooch, just email my HC at [email protected].

Next week, I will visit Charlotte’s yard again.

Saturday was the Winter Solstice, which means it was the shortest day of the year. I am looking forward to the longer days, starting now.

Thanks as always for reading my reports. I am heading into the kitchen to get this week’s Advent Calendar treat. As my HC says,

“Happy HoliDAZE”
