Exploring the Northern Waterfront – Part 1
As predicted, Friday was a burner day here in Alameda. I was on a limited walking schedule because of the air temperature and the heat coming off the sidewalk. In looking for a cool, shady place to walk other than the tree-lined sections of Alameda Avenue and Central Avenue, I headed to the northern waterfront area around Grand Street to see what that offered.
There was a nice breeze coming off the estuary, so I stopped off at Mosley’s Café for an “energy” treat before heading west along the estuary. For all you human companions, this is a great place for a coffee, tea, a TCO (tall cool one), and a bite to eat.
As I walked along the Bay Trail, it was impossible to not notice the hundreds of boats in the Grand Harbor Marina. I got to thinking about the other marinas on the island and just how many boats there must be in Alameda. Does anyone know how many boats are berthed in the city?
I am the last canine that should be correcting anyone’s spelling, but I thought this one was important because it involved where sailboats could dock.
As I continued west, I found a nice shaded park at the corner of Clement Avenue and Ohlone Street. I couldn’t find a name for this park. Does it have a name? This park is close to FAAS, and I saw a few of my brothers and sisters with their volunteer walking companions. These folks get a high four from me for their dedication to our shelter animals, especially the ones that survived walking me.
Over this past week, I watched the front yard of an apartment complex get a complete makeover. The final design is really nice. Thanks to the family that took on this beautification project.
Just down the street, I found another beautification project in the form of Mother Nature’s botanical marvel. The colors on this bloom were especially vibrant in the morning sun.
On the home front, my HC (human companion) spent a good portion of Saturday in the backyard weed whacking and removing more of the roots from the tree that got cut down four years ago. He finally got the Persimmon tree he was given for his birthday several months ago into the ground. Of course, I did my share by helping him dig the hole. I wonder if I even like persimmons?
ATTENTION ALL HUMAN COMPANIONS: On June 8, FAAS is sponsoring a free (yes, FREE!) microchip clinic at the Alameda Elks Club parking lot. This is an amazing opportunity to significantly increase the chances of having us returned to you in the event of a breakout. Please pass this information along to all dog and cat owners.
From this end of the leash, welcome to June.
